It was the beginning of 12th grade and our lockers were organized alphabetically. Since Migliara comes before Miller, Gabby’s locker was stacked on top of Jacob’s. Seeing as there is nearly 12” of height between them, Jacob very nicely asked if Gabby wouldn’t mind trading lockers with him so he could have the top one, seeing as he was so much taller. She promptly declined, closed her locker shut, and went to class.

And the rest, as they say, is history.
